A clearer cost.
A considered price.

Before you send a number, make sure you know what it covers. Start with this preview, then check your scope against the job.

Try the price preview.

Enter your total allowed job cost, including the overhead and contingency you intend to recover. Choose the margin you want to calculate.

Example: $5,000 cost at a 20% margin gives a price of $6,250 before sales tax.

Price = allowed cost ÷ (1 − margin). A 20% margin equals a 25% markup on cost. Your actual profit depends on actual costs; these inputs do not predict results. Sales tax is not calculated.

Before the bid leaves your desk

Six things to pin down.

  1. Scope. What is included, excluded, measured and still unknown?
  2. Materials. Who supplies each item, and are quantities, delivery and waste accounted for?
  3. Labor. Does your cost include the crew hours and burden the job actually needs?
  4. Outside costs. Check subcontractors, permits, equipment, disposal and access.
  5. Allowances. Name the amount, what it covers and what changes the price.
  6. Review. Compare the final number with the scope and explain open decisions before acceptance.
